EdgesLaura Letinsky uses the edges of subjects such as tables and shelves and the line where one colour meets another as important features of the composition in her still-life photographs. Jed Devine and Jan Groover use similar compositional devices in their work. lines formed by the edges of parts of building, shadows and silhouettes are an important part of the composition in the photographs and photograms of laszlo moholy-nagy.
Over the next couple of weeks i am going through a project which i had the choice out of Edges, fragments, Openings and Disguise. Out of them 4 choices i chose Edges because One i think that would be very interesting because it can be anything everything has an edge. I enjoy taking and evaluating the surface and surroundings of a object (for example edges and curves). I am going to make this page and project as interesting as possible and add as much information as needed and try to excel and reach the grades i need. |

Paul OuterbridgePaul Outerbridge is a famous photographer, i have chose him because his work on edges which are based around sculptures (Stationery equipment and ornament) one thing i have noticed about Paul Outerbridge and other photographers that have worked on edges is that they don't go for interesting a images that stand out and i going to try and show my examples of my inspiration for Paul because out of all the photographers i have seen and read about and evaluate there images i would say Paul outerbridge's are the best, for his layout and his care for his images and presentation.

Laura LetinskyLaura Letinsky is very unique photographer she doesn't go for the obvious photo's of edges for instance buildings etc, In the photo's opposite she uses foods and food utensils which gives it a better and brighter look. The composition doesn't matter with this sort of topic because an edge can be rigid, smooth and ruff but its still an edge. I like Laura style of photography because she doesn't go out there and take photo's she uses things that you see in everyday life. Also there is no Rule of thirds because every thing is spread around the camera view. One reason i would like to inspire to be her because of her independence and variety of techniques for example she doesn't always take images straight on she goes down, goes high, takes photo's from all different angles.

My Own Images Of edgesI went out for half an hour to take a few examples and samples for edges and these are some of my examples some of them i don't really like but some are very interesting and have a very good composition and i like the concept of the photo. This is my first examples so i am no were near my final piece, i have a long way to go and along the line i will see my progression and see were i am going wrong and what i need to improve and what i need to keep the same. One thing i need to improve is my time i take to find the right position for taking the photo, my composition is always wrong 90% of the time so that is one thing i need to improve and step up on.

"These images were testers to see what edges i could find before starting to get ideas i think there are some images her that are decent for a final piece"

Jan GrooverOne thing that i find quite interesting about John Groover is that even though he base's some of his work around edges, In some of his images he has focused on reflection as well and that is something that i want to do in the future for e.g Go to a local park or somewhere has the suns reflection or the reflection of a lake. Another thing i like about jan Groover is that everything isn't in focus which makes the image stand out more and tone of the image is very colourful an

My Inspiration Of Laura Letinsky
My Final Image
|
These images are inspirational to Laura Letinsky, I think this looks like her work because she sets out a stage of objects for example as you see in this image there is a pot of paint brush's, Art Board and A pot of water. However there are still improvements on this photo because you can see the wall for one, you cant see all of the paint brush's and the card that is underneath the objects is rigid and can be seen, Finally there are things in this image that i have kept the same or changed for e.g colour and tone and the composition is fairly different to my other versions of my work . However Through these past couple of weeks i have been working so hard to try and make my work the best of my potential and that is what i finally did these past 2 days, i have used objects that i wouldn't use or even take an interest to and made it into something that i am proud of. These picture's are very similar

What I want for my final piece
For my final piece i want to achieve to my full potential. Firstly i like images to have a meaning and to be colourful thats one thing i look for in my images other than the main part of this course which edges. But when i go out to take photo's i need to be in a relaxed and calm mood which helps me to take the best and most focused and interesting photo's i can take. the photo's above ^^ I love but there is something about them that aren't what i am looking for maybe its the tone or the focus or even the composition and thats what i am going to focus on in the last couple of lessons and days of my project which i going to make MY LAST FINAL PIECE which hopefully will have everything that will get me a high grade (C-A*).
My holiday photo's
Final Images
i chose these Group of Photo's because they are all similar in a way even though, through this project that i have been doing i took all these photo's in different stages some of these are my first photo's that i wasn't happy with but now i have seen they have things in common.
Firstly i think all these images look really good together because they all have different contrasts of colour for example in one photo they have 3 contrasts of colour (GREY,BLACK and WHITE). Through the whole process of this project i have been so concentrated on one sort of project! But then i was helped to go through my Photo's to see which ones suit each other and match and i think these do they have a few edges and the focus is perfect.
Display Strategy
I want this set my final piece out like this. This display strategy is very different and unique, towards the end of my project i had an idea to created (4x4) or (5x5) boxes which looked very good accept you could fit the whole image together you had to sort of chose part of it and use it, however it looked quite jumbled up for instance there would be a hand on the sea. I like this display strategy because it 3D and its not in a frame that you can just look at, this display you can look at hold it and turn it in all angles to see all different parts of image.
The final evaluation
When we started this project i was sort of worrying wondering what i was gonna do what i was gonna achieve. I was set to get a A* and through the project i have slowly been reaching my goal.
Through out this project i have been thinking what am i going to do and how i am going to present my photo's but for my final 4 pieces i think they look very unique and what i have aimed to do through out the project. I have struggled a bit through the process but i think i have succeeded on my goal
